Information about the Center
The Veteran Mental Health Center of Excellence (VMHCE) was established in 2024 as a state-of-the-art knowledge and training hub for veteran mental health in Ukraine. It is a joint initiative of Taras Shevchenko National University, in collaboration with international partners: the Federation Global Initiative on Psychiatry and the King’s Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR) at King’s College London. The Center’s academic base allows it to provide support and guidance to all governmental and non-governmental institutions across Ukraine.

What are we doing?
The VMHCE focuses on three key areas: training, methodology, and research. Its target audience includes everyone working with military personnel, veterans, their families, and communities, ranging from peer support groups and community leaders to the full range of mental health professionals.
The Center is also developing an e-learning platform that will offer online courses for those engaged in veteran mental health care. Additionally, the platform will be a resource bringing together the already vast amount of materials on these issues that are available in Ukrainian. An International Scientific Board, consisting of a dozen internationally renowned experts, provides guidance on effective mental health treatment and support methods. Furthermore, carefully selected books and literature will be translated into Ukrainian and made accessible to the Center’s target groups.
