Seminar: “Modern Methods for Screening Mental Disorders,” Part 2

On March 4, 2025, a follow-up training seminar for psychology students from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was held at the Institute of Psychiatry.
What was covered?
The seminar focused on the practical application of modern mental health screening methods. Participants not only learned about current approaches to mental health assessment but also practiced applying them in realistic scenarios.
Interactive training format:
• Role-playing exercises helped students learn how to conduct screenings appropriately and communicate effectively with patients experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts.
• Case study analysis gave participants the opportunity to assess complex clinical situations and identify the most appropriate interventions.
• Data interpretation practice emphasized the use of structured questionnaires to objectify results, improve diagnostic accuracy, and monitor changes in patients’ conditions.
Why are such events important?
Regular mental health screenings for military personnel enable the early detection of depression and suicidal tendencies. Timely diagnosis allows for appropriate psychological and psychiatric support — and can ultimately save lives.
