The Veteran Mental Health Center of Excellence at the Institute of Psychiatry: The Next Step in Development
On December 12, a working meeting was held at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, focused on financing the completion of the reconstruction of the Veteran Mental Health Center of Excellence at the Institute of Psychiatry (VMHCE).
The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the International Foundation “Human Rights in Mental Health – Global Initiative in Psychiatry” (FGIP), and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine. The current funding enabled the launch of the Center; however, additional support is required for its full-scale operation.
- The University has provided expanded premises, which will allow for the opening of a clinical unit with seven inpatient wards for residential treatment of veterans and intensive family therapy.
- Currently, the Center operates on an outpatient basis, and the number of visits is increasing every month.
- The focus of VMHCE is not only on research and education, but also on direct treatment and long-term support for veterans and their families.
The opening of the Center is planned for 2026.
Together, we are building a resilient mental health system for those who defend Ukraine — and for their loved ones.
